Shopping for health insurance on your own can feel like comparing a dozen versions of the same thing. Every plan has a different premium, deductible, network, and drug list, and the plan that looks cheapest each month isn't always the one that costs least over a year. Hollen Counts has been helping clients since 2005, and her job is to make that comparison simple.
As an independent broker, Hollen isn't tied to one insurance company. She compares individual and family plans from multiple carriers, checks that your doctors and prescriptions are covered, and explains the trade-offs in plain English. There's no extra charge to work with her: brokers are generally paid by the carrier, and Marketplace premiums are the same whether or not you use a broker.
Most of the people Hollen helps don't get coverage through a job: self-employed people, early retirees under 65, families, students, people between jobs, and anyone moving to a new state. Many qualify for a premium tax credit on a Marketplace plan based on household income. For 2027 coverage, Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027, and you need to choose a plan by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1. Outside that window, a life event like losing coverage, moving, marriage, or a new baby can open a Special Enrollment Period.
